Best Practices for Glowing Skin!
I often get asked what’s the best way to keep your skin hydrated and looking radiant. My best advice is to wash your face with a product that isn't overly drying, like an oil cleanser, use a really great cream, and a serum for when we need that extra boost of hydration. I have recently become obsessed with using oils for all my moisturizing needs as I find my skin stays hydrated longer, looks dewy and just all around more healthy. (Don’t be scared of oils on your face. When they’re the right kind of oils they will do wonders, I promise! Check out my favourite face care products here)
Another big part of maintaining healthy skin is through diet and making sure we are eating hydrating foods and drinking lots of water. So remember to make sure this is also part of your skin care routine. And sleep! Try, just try and get enough sleep.
I have a few other suggestions for those looking for healthy hydrated skin. I recently discovered a new Montreal based natural body care brand called Shakti Things. I was immediately drawn to their impressive list of natural ingredients and unique selection. I was also a little curious because I had very little knowledge of a few of the products. To be honest, I didn't really know why people used them...But now I can say I am sooo happy I checked them out.
All Shakti Things are plant-based to the core with ingredients chosen with your skin in mind. Each element is mindfully chosen and combined using the same natural, small-batch process.
Here are a few products that when used alongside your daily routine will bring out that radiant glow that we all want so badly!
We all know what a face mask is and I’m sure most people have tried one at some point in their lives. However, not all face masks are made equal. Check out the ingredients list on this bad boy..
Solum Fullonum (Fullers Earth) Clay, Kaolinite (White Clay), Althaea officinalis (Marshmallow) Root Powder, *Lepidium meyenii (Maca) Walp, Santalum spicatum, Boswellia serrata, *Lavandula angustifolia, Santalum album.
Ok, What does this all mean? Basically what you are going to get from using this mask is a radiant complexion, soothed skin and a beautiful glow.
- Solum Fullonum Clay (Fullers Earth): Draws excess oil from the skin and brightens.
- Kaolinite (white clay): Gently detoxes skin.
- Althaea officinalis (Marshmallow) Root Powder: Helps in reducing the effect of swelling and also helps rejuvenate the deterioration of the skin.
- Lepidium meyenii (Maca) Walp: Enhances the firmness of skin and boost its inherent protective abilities.
- Sandalwood: The toning effect of sandalwood helps in shrinking skin pores that provides an even skin texture and prevents sagging and aging skin.
- Boswellia serrata - Indian Frankincense: Reduces the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. Naturally tones and helps skin to appear smoother and softer.
This next one is my favourite find since my discovery of oil cleansers. I had to do a little research to figure what exactly to do with this product. At first you feel like you just sprayed your face with scented water that you paid more than water prices for...But after it dried I was shocked. Now I use it everyday to set my makeup. There is nothing worse than having a cakey makeup look that lets everyone know that you are indeed wearing makeup and don't actually have flawless skin. But this face mist helps with that. It kinda blends everything together and leaves your skin with a radiant glow. It also keeps your skin hydrated longer throughout the day. I never leave the house now without a few spritzes of this stuff on my face.
Ingredients: Aqua (and) Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Powder (and) Citric Acid (and) Sodium, *Hamamelis virginiana (witch hazel) water (and) Ethanol,*Glycerin, Rosa damascena, Citrus aurantium amara, Cananga odorata,Ylang ECO Essence, Leuconostoc/Radish Root Ferment Filtrate & Lactobacillus & Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Fruit Extract,Lonicera japonica (Honeysuckle extract), Rosa canina (Rosehips extract).
Don't just think about your face when trying to achieve radiant skin, the rest of your body deserves a little TLC as well. Coffee Scrubs have become my go to when my skin is looking dry and dull. Although messy for the shower or bath the results are definitely worth it. I find my skin tone looks even, feels soft and smells delightful after!
Shakti Things has 3 options to choose from, coconut & lime, orange & mint, green tea & lemongrass.
Coffee grounds are a mechanical exfoliate, meaning they can be used to scrub away dead skin to reveal the new, healthy skin underneath, whereas chemical exfoliates remove skin cells with enzymes or acidic properties. Exfoliating with coffee grounds improves circulation, leaving you with smooth, glowing skin.
While you won't ingest nearly as much caffeine when your coffee's on your skin instead of in your cup, the caffeine from used coffee grounds can temporarily reduce the appearance of cellulite and give your skin a firmer appearance.
Ingredients: Robusta and Arabica Coffee Beans, Raw Organic Sugar, European Spa Salt, Green Tea extract, Green Tea Butter Organic Coconut Oil, Sweet Almond Oil, Glycerine, Vitamin E, Fragrance & Essential Oils (varies according to scent)
1. Spoon out your coffee scrub
2. Rub on your skin, paying special attention those areas that need a little more TLC
3. Wait 5 minutes while the scrub works its magic
4. Rinse and enjoy
So there you have it. Here are a few ways to bring out your natural glow!
